Katie grew up in a very musical family, with both parents teaching music in schools and her father singing with the San Francisco Opera chorus. She began playing piano and singing at an early age, including giving her family nightly one-person performances of “Annie” in the living room. Later, she played flute in her high school marching band and participated in various choral groups.
She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Music from Sonoma State University, focusing on vocal performance while also studying early childhood education. During college, she performed in musicals and operettas, sang with local community choirs, and spent a year abroad in Germany studying music and voice.
